Proceed immediately to the online shop to get your hands on your own piece of Beyond France linen | Indigo Dyed Linen Although we are fond of the Hungarian linen in its numerous natural nuances, we also love colour and it only seemed fitting to dye the linen in Hungary. We now work exclusively with Hungarian Indigo Dyers who use traditional methods to dye the natural linen indigo blue.
Patterns such as Polka Dots and Roses are hand printed on to the linen using traditional printing blocks; these blocks have been in use for at least 100 years. The linen is also hand dyed in custom made wells.
Indigo is one of the oldest colours recorded in history. The dye is made from plant extracts and has been used worldwide for many centuries.
The dying process is literally magical because the indigo dye is naturally yellow until it reacts with oxygen and turns blue. Therefore to build up the intense colour the linen is repeatedly dipped in the indigo well.
The diversity in the texture of the linen creates an array of shades and makes each piece distinctive. Check out the latest stock in the online shop. Lifestyle photos from Gilboa Barn
| Petal Pink Linen: As dying the Hungarian linen indigo was such a great success, it seemed a natural progression to start looking at other colours.
Initially we had the most success with pink and so after many dying trials and very pink hands, we created the 'Beyond France pink'.
With our secret recipe and the diversity of the linen we were able to achieve a full spectrum of pinks so it only seemed fitting to call this range petal pink.
The polka dot and rose designs are also hand printed for the petal pink linens, which means that you can mix and match with the indigo collection to make your own original style. Although we can suggest that the town polka dot napkins look divine on an indigo tablecloth.
| Hedgerow Purple To reflect the change in seasons and the drawing in of the nights Beyond France has introduced a range of deep rich purples to the dyed linen collection. The tones used are evocative of the colours of the English hedgerow, incorporating shades of elderberry, blackberry and blackcurrant, as well as lighter shades reminiscent of the Victoria plum.
A multitude of beautiful shades are achieved via the use of hand spun vintage Hungarian linen which is further enriched through the hand dying process. Within the Just Purple collection there are a range of tea towels, café tablecloths and napkins available, in a range of designs from plain to polka dot. Complementary to any kitchen in any home.
The Just purple kitchen and table linens make a perfect setting for a freshly baked blackberry and apple crumble.
| Lavender Blue
With the longer days and appearance of delicate spring flowers, Beyond France is imagining sunshine and summer holidays in France and Hungary. These day dreams of open fields have inspired the latest shade 'Lavender Blue'.
The colour ranges from pale harebell blue through to the warmer shades of blue and mauve associated with French and English lavender fields!
It invokes images of carefree summer's day, a lavender blue tablecloth and napkins on a white café table with a freshly poured glass of English Elderflower cordial!
Lavender Blue is available in the usual range of table linens in plain and a selection of hand-printed designs.
